We live in a country where every day is
a day of celebration in some way; where there are innumerable tribes;
thousands of people who have set high standards for living;monuments
that represent our cultural heritage; achievements that speak volumes
of our growth and various organisations that need to be felicitated
for their contribution towards making this nation a better place.
Hence it becomes mandatory that all the
details are carried to every nook and corner of the country for
enlightening the people and to incite the sense of pride and
privilege of being an Indian and the responsibilities we carry on our
shoulders towards empowering our country.Stamps are one such way of
proclaiming a country's role and development in various aspects not
only India but for any country.
The stamps of Independent India are
interesting. Once the British rule was eradicated, Independent India
stamps are released. First Indian stamp is the tricolour stamp which was used
for Foreign correspondence. The 2nd one is the most
common stamp with our national emblem on it which is used for
domestic correspondence. The 3rd stamp with Douglas aircraft was meant for foreign airmail. The 4th
set of stamps which was also the first Republic India stamps had 4 stamps of various denominations each bearing
Gandhi's picture in it is very famous even now as one among it was
auctioned for a huge sum of money in London last week. It is said
that only 10+ stamps of this kind are left in the planet.
That said, stamps hold a very special place in carrying forward history. Collecting used stamps is a hobby with greater values with which we can learn as well as let the upcoming generations to learn so many facts the stamps are silently depicting and most importantly saving the not-so-much-in-use-these-days-stamps from near extinction.
