Rain brings happiness

“Rain brings happiness” but guess that is not the actual case nowadays as we cringe at the thought of knee deep water making us sail through the roads and putting us through the hardship of getting jammed in the traffic. The more I think, the more I realise the serious consequences. The climate was so awesome making it all the more pleasant for picturesque photos posing in the rain and traveling in empty bus to office .All thanks to the holidays declared for schools and colleges. But then the reality dwelled in when a dead cat fell from the sheets of the covered car. That is the reality we all ignore comfortably. It is nothing but a representation of people getting stranded due to heavy rain.                  Let us not blame the encroachments in lakes and rivers(at least for now) as it is not the right time. Moreover the Govt. has also generously approved all the lakes in the city to turn into well established Residential establishments.               The plig

Safe Haven!

There could be nothing more refreshing than going a trip down memory lane of our own past, especially when it is of equal mixture of everything life throws at us.             Just happened to stroll around my alma mater “Easwari Engineering College” and realised how much life has changed over the years but still the ambiene of the college remains same and how the college still manages to teach me every aspect of life.               I have never done anything to my college or my department, once I have finished my course but still shamelessly asked my HOD to help me out for my PG admission in our parent University.Eventhough she initially made a grumpy face on how we used to ignore the department, she was never hesitant to help me clear my admission processes. I was quite astonished to see her bragging about me to all the new faculty members of the department. Never in my college life, I've seen her being over joyful about her students, but that day she prove

Foot in the mouth disease

Former Goa C.M vows not to talk to the media for 6 months. This makes me feel how good it would be if all our leaders suffering from Foot in the mouth disease decide to follow suit. Praveen Togadia of VHP is the first person to come to my mind. His infamous speech on revoking the voting rights of muslims and revoking their posts. Also on how Muslims should be stopped from buying Hindus properties and to enforce Disturbed Areas act, which makes it difficult to sell property to a minority community member to prevent communal tension and insisted on occupying a Muslim's property by force and knit the owner in a legal case; H.Raja of BJP who maligned Periyar. One should have so much courage to listen to all the derogatory stuff he said about Periyar and the Muslim and Christian communities.          Remember Owaisi? Not exactly right. But nobody would have forgotten his speeches, where he claimed that 180 Million Indian muslims need only 15 Minutes without Police(which he

Unsung Heroes

Remember Yogeshwar Dutt? Olympics Bronze Medal winning Wrestler.Remember Maria Irudayam? Two times World Carrom Champion. Remember Sarita devi? A tarnished memory of a weeping boxer handing away the Bronze Medal presented to her, condemning the foulplay by the judges of the Asian Games'14 comes to mind, else we would have forgotten her too. All the above mentioned sportspersons were celebrated when they bagged their awards but not after the stipulated time meant for rejoicing over the victory. Every Olympics we look forward to find our country in the medal tally with atleast one Gold medal. Every Commonwealth and Asian Games pass as if we have accomplished something great as we find ourselves in a better place among our counterparts. Even the scams associated with sports remain in our memory but not the great accomplishments by our sports personalities. It may not be mandatory for a common man to follow a game which doesnot fit his taste or interest but its absolutely

Insuring for Suicide

"Rs.1500 Crore Nuclear Insurance pool set up" This news might look as if the Government cares for the people living around the Nuclear reactors but that is not the actual case. The Insurance which has to be taken care by the Nuclear Supplier in case of a nuclear accident will now be taken care by the government itself. The whole setup is aimed at reducing the burden of the supplier which ultimately paves way for more Nuclear reactors in the country. This is what we claim as development.Already with all the time bombs ticking in the name of Reactors, this one step by the Govt. will make our country more prone to Nuclear accidents as the accountability of the supplier has become zero now. We are already familiar with incidents such as Uranium being carried in open trucks around Jaitapur and a painter who used Nuclear treated water for whitewashing the walls of the plant. That shows the seriousness and awareness we have on such issues. Not even one reactor has

The curious case of missing bicycles

“Early bird gets the worm” goes a saying. So I was trying to be that early bird for the past 2 days being so early to work discovering how it feels to be early as I have always been a latecomer right from my schooldays.Apart from the weird looks from my office security and constant teasings from my colleagues on my strange behaviour there is something which I felt quite annoying the last two days. The unusual traffic at the same time same place for 2 consecutive days. Being a hasty person I am, first day it was so easy for me to vroom amidst the vehicles and ignore the reason as usual but today I was quite curious to find out the reason for the unusual traffic and it was so obvious that parents were busy driving their kids to school after summer vacation. I was quite surprised not to find any one student on the road. Either they were occupying the pillion seat or inside cars or vans. Not a single student was driving a bicycle or walking to school or not even using th

Hail the queen!

Jampacked cars and buses, scorching sun, Aimless politicians, Irresponsible officials, helpless public,.. All at one place.. Why? For what? All the questions lead to one unfit answer that their leader has been given clean chit and ready to adorn the throne for the fifth time. With all due respect I understand the necessity of rejoicing and showing their support to the party.. But at what cost? Where are we headed at this rate? Does immobilizing a city make someone a super power? There were thousands of vehicles stranded in kamraj promenade for no particular reason and our otherwise efficient police men have become practically useless simply sitting on the ledges and basking in the glory of how the beach is being turned in to a resort for the party men. It was impossible for a common man to enter the beach with his family that day. The above scenario was a day before swearing in. Things were out of control on the much awaited day. Traffic was blocked for a circumference more tha

Little things...

I stumbled upon a fact on the reason behind Lincoln's beard and was quite astonished. There was a 11 Year old girl whose dad was supporting Lincoln when he competed for the post of the President and this little girl wrote a letter to Lincoln on how good he will look with a beard and how she will campaign for bearded Lincoln. Moreover she insisted on how much women like bearded men, so that they will make their husbands vote for him. It might be a little thing to be ignored for anyone but not for this man. Its just about the importance we give to small things in our life and how those little things matter the most. Most of the times we never give importance to the person we really love and lose them in the long run and complain on how people change over time. Its our inability to make them realise how much they mean to us and vice versa. Do we ever care to greet or smile at a person? Think about it..Do we ever like a sulky conductor? We all cringe at the thought o

7 Days of uselessness

This is the thing I kept pondering today..What have I become this week?It has been seven days since my mom and sister went out of station and my home has become completely quite except for the chit chat I have with my dad once he comes home late at the night usually after 10.30. So practically I have mastered the art of washing, cleaning & cooking which I find quite boring and annoying when my mom is at home. Everyday I wake up and cook something and I rejoice at the fact that I've cooked something eatable. All these days I had skipped my morning walk, my reading habit and most particularly my practice of reading my subject daily has become a long forgotten habit. Not because I was busy, Simply because I've become super lazy. So that's it.. It was so easy for me to fit into the new routine. Even if it was not acceptable, it was adaptable. As a human being, this is the most dreaded phase, changing and fitting into someone else's shoes and forgetti

Why do I need a blog?

Because I want to.As simple as that...So many things keep popping in my mind everyday.I always try to put them in words and preserve so that I could relive all the happy and sad moments as well. Its always a pleasure when you re-read what you have been through and what you wish from the world. So here it is...My journey as a blogger starts here.   I wish I could write more meaningfully and meet people of different opinions.  I expect lots of love and encouragement. Love, Aswini Ashok
