Stamping our pride

We live in a country where every day is a day of celebration in some way; where there are innumerable tribes; thousands of people who have set high standards for living;monuments that represent our cultural heritage; achievements that speak volumes of our growth and various organisations that need to be felicitated for their contribution towards making this nation a better place.                   Hence it becomes mandatory that all the details are carried to every nook and corner of the country for enlightening the people and to incite the sense of pride and privilege of being an Indian and the responsibilities we carry on our shoulders towards empowering our country.Stamps are one such way of proclaiming a country's role and development in various aspects not only India but for any country. KING OF H...

Reduce or never use

*ALL CREDITS TO WHERE IT IS DUE* Let us close our eyes and imagine the following situations;           Situation 1: You are riding your vehicle and a gush of wind passes? What do you see and what happens around you?        Situation 2: You have a very clean house, where you duly clean your house and make sure the garbage is surrendered to the garbage collector everyday. What happens to the garbage after that?          These are few of the most common situations we come across every day but have no clue on what follows.            In the 1 st situation, the gush of wind will make sure all the particles coming its way are carried away. The first culprit will be nothing but plastic covers directly making its way to the roadside drains blocking the drainage system in every possible way. But do we care?            In the 2 nd Situ...

Rain brings happiness

“Rain brings happiness” but guess that is not the actual case nowadays as we cringe at the thought of knee deep water making us sail through the roads and putting us through the hardship of getting jammed in the traffic. The more I think, the more I realise the serious consequences. The climate was so awesome making it all the more pleasant for picturesque photos posing in the rain and traveling in empty bus to office .All thanks to the holidays declared for schools and colleges. But then the reality dwelled in when a dead cat fell from the sheets of the covered car. That is the reality we all ignore comfortably. It is nothing but a representation of people getting stranded due to heavy rain.                  Let us not blame the encroachments in lakes and rivers(at least for now) as it is not the right time. Moreover the Govt. has also generously approved all the lakes in the city to turn ...

Safe Haven!

There could be nothing more refreshing than going a trip down memory lane of our own past, especially when it is of equal mixture of everything life throws at us.             Just happened to stroll around my alma mater “Easwari Engineering College” and realised how much life has changed over the years but still the ambiene of the college remains same and how the college still manages to teach me every aspect of life.               I have never done anything to my college or my department, once I have finished my course but still shamelessly asked my HOD to help me out for my PG admission in our parent University.Eventhough she initially made a grumpy face on how we used to ignore the department, she was never hesitant to help me clear my admission processes. I was quite astonished to see her bragging about me to all the new faculty members of the department. Never...

Foot in the mouth disease

Former Goa C.M vows not to talk to the media for 6 months. This makes me feel how good it would be if all our leaders suffering from Foot in the mouth disease decide to follow suit. Praveen Togadia of VHP is the first person to come to my mind. His infamous speech on revoking the voting rights of muslims and revoking their posts. Also on how Muslims should be stopped from buying Hindus properties and to enforce Disturbed Areas act, which makes it difficult to sell property to a minority community member to prevent communal tension and insisted on occupying a Muslim's property by force and knit the owner in a legal case; H.Raja of BJP who maligned Periyar. One should have so much courage to listen to all the derogatory stuff he said about Periyar and the Muslim and Christian communities.          Remember Owaisi? Not exactly right. But nobody would have forgotten his speeches, where he claimed that 180 Million Indian mus...

Unsung Heroes

Remember Yogeshwar Dutt? Olympics Bronze Medal winning Wrestler.Remember Maria Irudayam? Two times World Carrom Champion. Remember Sarita devi? A tarnished memory of a weeping boxer handing away the Bronze Medal presented to her, condemning the foulplay by the judges of the Asian Games'14 comes to mind, else we would have forgotten her too. All the above mentioned sportspersons were celebrated when they bagged their awards but not after the stipulated time meant for rejoicing over the victory. Every Olympics we look forward to find our country in the medal tally with atleast one Gold medal. Every Commonwealth and Asian Games pass as if we have accomplished something great as we find ourselves in a better place among our counterparts. Even the scams associated with sports remain in our memory but not the great accomplishments by our sports personalities. It may not be mandatory for a common man to follow a game which doesnot fit his taste or int...

Insuring for Suicide

"Rs.1500 Crore Nuclear Insurance pool set up" This news might look as if the Government cares for the people living around the Nuclear reactors but that is not the actual case. The Insurance which has to be taken care by the Nuclear Supplier in case of a nuclear accident will now be taken care by the government itself. The whole setup is aimed at reducing the burden of the supplier which ultimately paves way for more Nuclear reactors in the country. This is what we claim as development.Already with all the time bombs ticking in the name of Reactors, this one step by the Govt. will make our country more prone to Nuclear accidents as the accountability of the supplier has become zero now. We are already familiar with incidents such as Uranium being carried in open trucks around Jaitapur and a painter who used Nuclear treated water for whitewashing the walls of the plant. That shows the seriousness and awareness we have o...
